Heritage & History
In 1879, a nameless infant was found in a wicker cradle among the reeds of Aybrook Street, wrapped in impossibly fine fabric and rescued to St Marylebone church. Named Alfred Aybrook by a workhouse master, his origins remained a mystery. In the shadow of the apothecary, he exchanged unknown lineage for precision at the small alembic and found identity in Victorian London's botanical cures.
